Camping in Carnarvon Gorge

Camping in the Carnarvon Gorge visitor area is only available during the Easter, June-July and September-October Queensland school holidays. Big Bend camping area, reached by a 19.4km return walk, is open all year.

Accommodation is available just outside the national park. For more information see the tourism information links.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite.

Help rangers greet visitors and maintain visitor facilities in return for free camping in one of Queensland’s most iconic national parks.

Enjoy talking to people, love camping, are self-sufficient and equipped to camp in all weather conditions—campground hosting could be for you!

The department is seeking volunteers to act as campground hosts at Carnarvon Gorge section, Carnarvon National Park over the Queensland school holidays.
