Queen Mary Falls picnic area

With plenty of space for the kids to run around, this picnic area has modern facilities and superb walking adventures.

Settle in for a morning cuppa or BBQ picnic lunch at this shady spot nestled in fragrant eucalypt forest. Set up on one of the picnic tables or spread out a picnic rug on the lush lawn beneath the trees.

After your picnic head of to explore spectacular Queen Mary Falls, where Spring Creek tumbles 40m to the valley below. Choose from the Cliff or Queen Mary Falls circuits or, if you’re keen, do both! As you’re walking, keep an eye on the canopy, you might just spot a koala snoozing in the fork of a tree.

This park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, famed for its ongoing geological processes, evolutionary history, and diversity (especially of rare, threatened and endemic species).

Getting there and getting around

The Queen Mary Falls picnic area is in the Queen Mary Falls section of Main Range National Park, about 120km south-west of Brisbane.

  • The picnic area is 6km from the eastern park entrance, and 3km from the western park entrance.

Getting to the Queen Mary Falls section

  • Queen Mary Falls is at the south-west end of the park.
  • From the east, from Beaudesert, drive 40km west to Boonah, then drive 58km south-west via the Boonah-Rathdowney Road, Carneys Creek Road, and Head Road. If Head Road is closed, travel via Carneys Creek Road, then White Swamp Road.
  • The approach from Boonah is very steep and should be travelled with care. It is unsuitable for caravans.
  • From the west, drive 8km east of Killarney via Spring Creek Road.
